Cool cam, head combo for ecsb on 35's

What's up everybody! Need lots of help/info. I got a 00 ecsb Z71 4wd. 3in body lift, torsion keys, airlift bags, on weld/M/T ATZ's 35",motor. 98K is stock except for hypertech pgmr, true duals with magnaflow's. I have the common dreaded broken exhst bolt. I'm wanting to go ahead and change the heads, cam and get some real power. I use my truck to pull a pressure washing .outfit approx. 5000lbs when full of water. Love to hear the 35's roar and eat asphalt. This is my very first thread/post ever!!!!!!!

Welcome to the site! What kind of budget are you working with? Before you get the cam/ heads I'd ditch the hypertech and go with a Nelson Performance tune...highly recommended, and some Longtube headers. They will definatly give you a nice gain!

Welcome! If you need a quick fix on that broken bolt, find a friend with a welder and weld a nut to the end or make a pile of weld and turn it out.

I bet those 35's get pretty loud at 70 or so.

    nelson performance tune?

Thx for the info! Where or who can I contact for this tune? Can I do it myself, like the hyper or this done by a shop. I see all kinds of shortie type headers out there but not any "long"type.who? As for head/cam buget, I'd have no problem with a couple g's for parts. I've built several old school small blocks, but never turned a bolt on a 3rd generation any info or tricks would be greatly apprec.

    Welcome to the site!

Cool truck--can we get some pics?

Well, if you always pull a decent little trailer with it, picking a H/C combo might get tricky. Which header bolt is broken? Since you have a decent little lift, I would try and see about trying to extract it, then put some midlength headers on. Mid-lengths give better power in the lower and mid range--versus power up top, which is where the long tubes work the best.

As for the heads, you might wanna try and take yours off and have them just cleaned up a little and have a 3-angle valve job done. Then have a new valvetrain installed that will work with your cam.

As for the cam, there are plenty out there that will help out... Like the 080... or something along the lines of a 212/216 .531/.535 114 LSA.

Working on these Gen III motors is just as easy as the SBC. Just ask questions--we'll help!

The Nelson tune is done by the owner of this site actually It's a mail order tune instead of a programmer and they get you more power across the entire rpm range plus smooth out any faults the engine might get from newly added parts. His website is Nelson Performance - Performance without Sacrificing Drivability and you can get all the info you need on there. +1 for the midlengths if you can find them, I don't know off hand who makes them, but as far as longtubes go Pacesetter makes some great ones. Neweraperformance.com out of New York has them pretty reasonable...$280 for painted ones (with shipping!)

Well boys I've decided to go ahead ,change the exh.manifolds,a nelson tune before dumping a bunch of dollars. I'm hoping the remaining bolts won't "give up" when I go to back em" out. The one that is broke is always the heardest to get to...drivers side last bolt next to firewall/broke flush with head. Might go ahead a get a CAI,while I'm ordering, looking towards a Trick Flow CAI from Summit, looks to be same as a 77 K/N,but less money. Unless u guys know of better piece

Sounds like a good idea. Look into something in the area of what tyler was telling you on the cam. The Old Man Cam I am running is pretty good for torque off the line and playing on the street. But sucks for racing. So if you plan on racing alot... go bigger
