Thread: lq4 heads ?

  1. #1

    lq4 heads ?

what heads are best for n/a lq4 6.0 ? I have the 317's casts. would ls1 or ls6 heads work better for n/a ? or should i use the 317's have them gasket matched ported? And i will be putting a ls1 intake on it.

LS6's would work better since they flow better but increase compression. 317's would only be good if you were going FI. Since you already have dished pistons, I would say a set of worked LS6's would be good.

Yes, I am with Jay--a set of 243s would work well when going N/A and using an LS1 intake.

Use the same method of gasket matching, 3-angle valve job, and machining work on the 243s and you will be happy with the results.

He can mill the the 317's but in order to get the same result as stock 243's, they would have to be milled .050. That would be too much to mill off on a 317 since you could start running into piston to valve clearance issues with larger cams. It would put CR around 10:1. The most you should mill them would be .030 which would put your CR in the 9.75:1 range. If he got 243's milled .021 (61cc combustion chambers), then the CR would be close to 10.5:1 with the same flow.

The dished pistons make a big difference when trying to stay N/A.

Aren't LS2 and 243's the same heads? Except some 243's have sodium filled valves.

Wow, look at Jay trying to make fun of me because he is pissed cause his wife has his cajones in her purse--right next to his Man Card which was taken YEARS ago, won't let him even go to the bathroom without telling her first, and does not have the huevos to wrench on his own truck. Justify it however you want--Jay is still Captain of the Gay Train.

Yes, I AGREE with the Captain.

    +1

Yes, the 243s assembled from the factory on Z06 cars come with those valves and higher rate springs.
