well im new to this but i wanted to know what i would need to convert my 1990 gmc 4.3 5-speed into an lt1 also about how much am i going to spend and would i have to turn it into autmatic or if i could keep it standard because to me standard is better than automatic

Start by getting a LS1 or GenIII engine instead. There are a lot of resources here to help you out and you are going to have to do all the same labor to do the LS1 as you do to convert to an LT1 plus there are better tuning solutions for the LS1 based engines...
