I am thinking about bidding on an 8.1L engine with 5speed allison auto matic. Its a 2005 with 18,000 miles. Has the transfer case and all the electronics etc...

The price is pretty good I think. Bidding is just a smidge over $500 right now and the shipping is $850. Its in canada. Shipping is high but the price is low. Only 1 day left. I need to know if Allen can tune and make me a harness for the 2005 8.1L for the swap into my 1995 GMC Sierra. No one has done this swap yet that I have seen. Please respond ASAP!

thanks,
Mike

the 8.1 isnt very effiecient, that may be why it hasnt been done. is a heavy engine and has a lower horsepower rating than the lq9 as far as power to weight ratio id say its fairly low. it does have some torque tho! itll be interesting to see how thats gonna go

I suspect this combo will go for quite a bit more than it is presently listed. But may still be a bargain if anyone lives near upstate New York and can drive to Montreal to save the shipping cost... It includes the harness so you can modify it yourself if Allen doesn't do big blocks. But I suspect he can accomodate you. However, it looks like it is raining in Montreal and the engine is sitting outside uncovered.... On the 8.1, the throttle body tilts upward slightly and would act like a funnel..... use caution with this one young Jedi......

Yeah I noticed the water as well. The ECU is sitting outside with the engine as well.

Here is the post on ebay...

I will call them and ask all these questions before I bid on it if I do. I want to know what happend exactly to the vehicle it came out of as well.

As for efficiency, Head and cam swap would be mandatory on any engine I buy. I think those two mods alone on this engine would be enough to satisfy me...however, with the motor already out of the truck I will do whatever else mods my wallet will allow. I read in many places this is the MOST EFFICIENT big block ever produced from any factory. Also the cleanest burning.

Does anyone know how the allison 5 speed will fit in my 95 gmc sierra ext cab 4wd?

thanks,
Mike

Just a word of caution if you haven't already called. There is a very good chance that they will not speak English or if they do it will be very hard to understand them.

I've found that Quebecers who run a business and want American dollars tend to speak OK.... these guys run a large junkyard and probably parlez et comprenez anglais pretty well

You might have to lift it some. I remember seeing somewhere that a huy put one in a suburban and had to lift it to make it fit.
You are braver than I am. I would be too chicken to try it.

He had to lift the truck or the tranny? I will have to mod the cross member no matter what I put in. As for the speaking english. I think i have a solution to that as well. If we cannot understand each other my dad works with a french guy that goes up there every weekend and speaks fluently. He told me to call him at work. He is also going to ask the guy if he can pick it up for us if I buy it instead of shipping. If not my dad said he would take a trip to montreal with me! hehe.

Im sure its going to be a pain to do but what swap isnt? Either way if I get it this cheap it will deffinately be cheaper then what the original plan was to meet my power goals. I was going to buy a cheap 4.8 or 5.3 and swap in a 402 stroker block, new heads, cam etc... Then I would still need a beefed up tranny.

I checked out the company that is selling this and they seem pretty legit. I will see what happends in the morning. Wish me luck!
