My 1996 GMC only has one large pink(keyed power source?) coming from the firewall connection group of wires to the underhood power center. I need a few of these "keyed" power sources for my stand-alone harness power, dual fan relays, etc. Where can I find a few more of these without tearing my whole dash out, just to get at the keyswitch to trace them? Or is this what I have to do? Are orange wires also a keyed a power source? Thanks for the input. Gar

Gar, Are you swapping to a LS1? I can help you with the power sources. Let me know what you're doing.

Hey NITROUS, Very Cool...Thanks. Yes, I am doing a very simular installation as yours I guess. A 2001 Camaro SS LS1/4L60E going into my '96 GM full-size shortbed. Was a basic 4.3 Vortec/4L60E truck originally. No power windows or any other options what-so-ever. Basically GMC's "Work Truck" version. I have a few stand-alone harness questions, but I will ask one at a time, to keep things straight in my head(believe me, its for my benefit, not yours). First, I have a large white wire, I'm guessing its a 10 gauge, that calls for a "keyed power source", to power up the computer, thats on the harness. Where did you find your keyed power source for this connection? What size/type fuse would this need? Should a relay be used in conjunction as well? Man...I can't believe you have the same truck & installation as mine, this is great! Thanks very much for your help. Gar

Since you're not going to be using any of your fuel injectors, every pink wire in the injector plug is ignition fused feed. What plug is the white wire in the PCM ? The only large white wire I remember is the IC ontrol in the C3 clear plug on the PCM. You should have plenty of pink wires left over in the old harness that go back to the fuse box under the hood. I think I remember at least 6 that I pulled out or capped for future use. I started by pulling the old harness off and cutting off the plug from every thing I knew I wasn't going to use anymore. Fuel injectors, 02 sensors, crank position sensor, Inlet air, EGR, MAP, IAT, MAF, TP, Purge canister EVO solenoid on the power steering, etc....Then I pulled all of those wires and removed them from the 97 harness. You'll be suprised on how little bit of factory wiring you'll have left. A friend and I made a stand alone plug and play harness for the starter, fans, a/c and pcm with factory weather pack connectors. Then I just had to splice something like 6 wires and a ground. Hope this info helps.

Thanks NITROUS, I have been looking a bit closer at things and am finding some more pinks that are coming directly out of the main large firewall plug(whatever the proper name for THAT is, I don't know) that I think I can use. The stand-alone plug & play harness's for the fans & starter, etc., sound like a good idea. The problem is, months & months ago I grabbed the old V-6/tranny harness combination & cut off most everything that was V-6 related, which left very little. Time goes by & I have to research every wire thats left & relearn everything. Believe it or not, there is, and was, only one large pink going into my trucks power-center, that is also simply going to a small fuse & then back out again. I can use this one & the couple other small 16 gauge pinks that are coming out of the firewall outlet that I have cut off in the past, but should be usable. Thanks again for the great input. Will fire away my next harness question shortly. Thank-You, Gar

I have plenty of 96, 97 and 98 info if you need it. The Vortec harness you have will work fine and you really won't need much from it to tie into your LS1 harness. Let me know when you're ready for more info.
