Can the stock ecm from a 94 short box be removed when doing a LS swap? Or is there some functions its needed for?

Yes you can remove it.The LS PCM control everything you need and provide you gauges output for Tach and Speedometer.You need to keep the original wiring for the coolant sender, oil pressure.
