Question 1991 chevy pickup engine swap

Ive looking at swaping my old 4.3 v6 out of my truck this winter for a 5.3 which i already have. Its currently a 5-speed manual transmission i am not familiar with 5.3 bolt pattern im thinking its a littlle different then the 4.3 bellhouseing any good choices for manual trannsmissions? or maybe better off with a 4l60e? I know there many obstacle's but it will be worth it in the long run. Also was going to stay with drive by cable looks simpler than drive by wire any thoughts?

The 5 speed has the same bolt pattern, I think you need to use like a 4.8 flywheel or something to make it work?? Do a search guys have done it a few times before. I like dbc better, all you would have to do is get a 98 throttle cable and it would hook up to your factory pedal and the 5.3s throttle body.

Couple of ways to go here. The stock 5-speed will bolt up to the block, but it may not live long behind the 5.3. You may need to get a spacer to get the proper insertion into the disc. What Scary said above about the flywheel-its been done a lot. Another way to go is to use the T-56. Plenty strong and the first 4 gears are tightly spaced for performance and two over drives for economy-best of both worlds. It bolts up with out a spacer needed (if you get the LS version), and should use the same driveshaft. There are a few write ups about this swap too.
