6.0 liter build questions
i just bought a 99-2000 6.0 liter from a chevy 2500 hd.
i believe it is gen 3. i have been thinking about swapping 2002 z06 intake on it and maybe z06 heads. just not sure what kind of horsepower/torque i will have.
i'm trying to eventually get to 500hp all motor.
the engine will be hooked to a 700r4 and the drivetrain will be installed into a 1990 mazda std. cab pickup that will be airbagged and sitting on 22" wheels.
if anyone knows where i can get a engine harness and ecm for a decent price i would appreciate it.
i was leaning towards speartech for the harness/ecm, but if i can find a factory one for a better price i might consider it.
i have heard if i swap the 6.0 heads for 5.3 heads it will raise my compression and increase horsepower. just not sure if the 5.3 heads are better than the 5.7 z06 heads.
just needing some help.
thanks,
jeremy

the earlier 5.3L heads have 1.980'' intake valves which will hurt your flow numbers, if you can get them machined for 2.00'' valves you might have something. but for the price, you could find a set of P&P 241/243/799 heads and that would give you better numbers and thus, better potential for power. stay far away from the perimiter bolt(early style) 5.7L heads. if you want to make serious power, invest in a used L92 genIV top end with the higherflowing rectangular port heads and intake. they also come with much bigger stock valves than the cathedral port LS family top ends. this would be like bolting on a set of performance heads right out of the box. if you get the heads milled down and buy a set of shorter length pushrods, you can achieve a higher CR and make more power per stroke on the same fuel and air consumption

youre going to hate this reply but here it goes
if in deed that is a 99-00 motor just sell it. its not a good motor to work with. the internals are junk, the crank is longer then others. its agood block to make a good 408 from.
that motor will never work with that tranny unless you swap out the crank. top if off the rods of that year motor are really weak compared to othe LQ4s

well if the tranny wont work with that block, will the 4l80e tranny work?
crank length.....could i just swap a later model crank into it?
what would be the best year 6.0 liter to get?
originally i was gonna buy an 02 6.0 bare block with crank, pickup tube, truck oil pan for 250.00 i priced the rebuild kit for 950.00 and totalled about 1200.00 MINUS heads, intake, cam, etc.
the 6.0 i bought was 500.00 plus rebuild kit for 950.00 so totals 1450.00 and INCLUDES heads, cam, intake, etc.
the motor is complete with coilpacks and everything so i figured i'm saving money in the end, plus i listened to it run for 20 minutes after not being started for a few week and it ran good.
i know the 4l60 needs spacers to mount to the 6.0 block and the 4l60 is identical to the 700r4 so whats the reason it wont mount?

700R4 is a later model of tranny vs the 60E thats in the 94+ GM trucks.
why does the 60E need spacers to mount up to the 6.0? just swap to a 60E flywheel, use the 60E converter...right?
im sorry but 500rwhp in a bagged truck..why? youll never use it as a race truck. go with 350rwhp imo. the 6.0 in a small truck like that without a square tubing frame designed for the Tq that 6.0 will put out is a waste. its like putting a cammed 350 in a stock S10 an hoping itll hit 12s on slicks without twisting the frame.
i think your looking for the glory of 500rwhp in a 3000lbs truck bagged on 22s an blah blah. its just a waste of money if youll never use it for what its built for. just my .02, not being a butthole just questioning the motive of this build

I'm not asking what it supposed to be on a 99-00. I am asking what is actually on his engine. He may not actually have a iron headed engine, people are mistaken about year model a lot. For one thing he said it is from a 99-00 2500HD, which doesn't exist.
