Poor Gas Mileage after swap?

I have about 500 miles on a newly rebuild Chevy 5.3 engine. I have all emissions removed and using an o2 about 10 or so inches past each header. No cats and an open filter. Other items. 1997 Dodge NV4500 5 speed, axles are 4:10 gears with 35" tires. My questions is, I am only getting 8 mpg and would like some guidance on how it could be improved.

Sounds like you're not going into closed loop or your 02 sensors are bad.

I used Brendan at Lt1swap.com. Is there a way to determine how or if they are going into closed loop? It looks my my ODBII program will show open/closed loop. I use Diagnose ODBII on the laptop to monitor.

Please take a look at my images. I was positive on your Closed loop. However, after running it in the garage for several minutes it went to closed loop. I really do not know how to read the O2 diagram. Does this look right? My Bank 2 looks odd. What do you think?

And the other screen shot.

Thanks for your help!

you need a tune in the worst way. You're pulling 15.1 on fuel and its needing to probably pull even more. It should be about 5 max. RH 02 sensor is bad, too. Replace it first before attempting a tune.

I will look into something like HP tuner or ? Would this effect my flashing or cause it to be reflashed? While I did the full rebuild of my LC, I know very little about the engines. Thanks so much for the info on the tuning. I will research them a little and may have quetions.

For the other - Here is the link to the software I bought. It is read only to your ECM.
OBDII Diagnostic ScanTools and code-readers

In looking at the two site you mentioned above, these are more than I thought a "tuner" is. Is this best to be farmed out or something that I should have with my engine conversion? I was thinking the tuners as the devices you buy to add enhancements to your ECM like what Diesel guys have from Bully Dog.
