The LQ4 is generally used for lower compression applications so that you can use a power adder such as a supercharger or turbo. It would be difficult to have a low comp motor make 400 rwhp without any power adder. The problem becomes that you start working against your mods, meaning a cam that is good for a high comp, N/A motor does not do well with a boost motor. The other option would be to build a LQ9 that has decent off boost power and then add a small amount of boost to it (5-8 psi). This might get you what you want. Keep in mind that the higher CR you have the less boost you can safely run. Otherwise, you can build a 400+ hp LQ9 and then when you get the charger, you could change to dished pistons to lower your CR. Depends on what you want to do.

As far as the 60e or 80e, it's not even close. The 60e, no matter how "built" it is will give up once you start getting in the 500+hp range. Not to mention, the cost for a "built" unit will be anywhere from $2500-$3500. A stock 80e can be had for much cheaper and all you need to do is add a shift kit and it will probably be stronger than most built 60e's. Granted, there are other modifications that need to be made for the swap (driveshaft, crossmember, flexplate...) but it should still be less than the built 60. Not saying the 80e is indestructable, but they are a much better option than the 60e. You would probably only get a few hundred dollars for the 60e as it is now since it's got 115k on it. But that's a lot better than nothin if it gives up on you!

Go ahead and order a Nelson tune while you decide on the rest of your mods. It sounds like your buddy with the sierra would be an easy kill if he's doing mods like TB spacers!! A tune would really your truck up!
