    Cool ENGINE SWAP 5.3 ls1 to 6.0

    Hello,

I am a here well I have some questions. I am planning on swapping out my 5.3 engine on my 2003 suburban to a 6.0 ls2. My current engine has over 150k miles on it and is asking to be put to sleep, its knocking and well i decided to make the move. My question will it directly drop in into the suburban with out mods, better yet what all do i need to make the swap.

I have the tools to remove.

Looking for a used ls2 but what year will fit right in?

What is the estimated MPG compared to the 5.3?

Any good tunning shops around Dallas,TX?

    what else...

    kindly advise,
    sub2003

if you're planning on boosting later, you'll probably be better off getting an LQ4 or LQ9. either way, i hear you're better off using the Vortec intake because it flows better on the low end & in a 'sub, you'll need it to get that beast rolling. as for the swap itself, check out the threads on it in the conversion section. should be the same as any other 6.0 swap

here's a tahoe that's similar to your description

well depending on year of the LS2 it might have a 58 tooth reluctor wheel vrs your 24 tooth application...that would have to be changed. You will have to run the cam position sensor wires to the front of the block and swap wires A and C on the plug. The knock sensors would have to mount on the sides of the block instead of in the valley cover. You would have to drill and tap the block for those and possibly lengthen some wires.. You would also have to change the upper timing gear to a 1x wheel instead of the 4x wheel...thats some of the stuff..

Just curious, but why are you set on an ls2? You can find an lq4 or an lq9 for 1/3 the price and essentially the only differences are the heads and the iron vs. aluminum block. Put in an aftermarket cam and that negates the slightly larger cam specs as well.

Personally I'd just find an lq4 or an lq9 out of their respective trucks and swap it in. They are all gen III engines so it would swap right in.

well not im not set on the ls2? I appreciate the feedback really do, just that since thats what one of my buddys told me. I didnt know of any other swap in. Just want an engine that will give my suburban a personallity, also plan on changing the headers and putting a exhaust system as well. How many horses am i looking at with aftermarket cam with lq4 or the lq9 compared to the ls1.
