How much work would it take to put a ls1 in my 89 chev? It's a full size stepside 4x4. It has a 700r4 trans with a shift kit. I'm pretty sure the engine would bolt right up but I'm not so sure about all the other computer stuff. What kind of extra performance am I gonna get? Right not my 350 is all stock except for a jet six pack chip.

Not that much for trucks. You will have to buy or fabricate new motor mounts. Speed and performance sells adapter plates that allow you to use your stock mounting brackets (www.hotrodlane.cc) They also have the other resources like wiring harness, etc.

Performance will be no comparison between the two. Farmtruc is running 13s with a fairly stock LS1. There is no reason not to do the swap. Others here have done it and are willing to help.

    Good luck!

if you're going to mod the engine, it really doesn't matter what year, imo. but the later ones do make more hp stock.

check out my write up i just posted in the ls1 conversion forum/category

With the Street and Perf. mounts the trans. crossmember does not even have to be moved, but raised up 1/2" for the motormounts, can use the same driveshaft.
