Thread: 8.1 liter swap?

    8.1 liter swap?

just curious....how much more difficult, if any, would an 8.1 BB swap be as compared to a 6.0 swap in an OBS truck? both running 4l80e trans? would it be essentially the same swap?

A whole lot differant in $$$$$$$$ and value for your dollar.

as in not worth the effort/$$$? a lot of guys over on pt.net seem to be pointing to the BB for applications like mine (12" lift, 38"s, towing, etc) for all the torque down low. i still lean towards a 6.0, but admittedly im sure a lot of those guys know substantially more than i do.

even tossing around the idea of just doing a mostly stock 5.3 right now for the sake of cheap cheap cheap for a low miles complete engine and then long term building a mean 408 so the conversion aspect would already be done and it would just be a matter of swapping out the engines themselves and re-tuning.

408 would be good but maybe you wanna swap in a deisal and an allison.

Tons of trq etc etc etc

i would love to swap in a d-max/allison that would no question be my first choice, but i have been told the complications involved with that would be more than its worth right now, plus additional cost would be fairly large finding a complete dmax and allison.

good stuff man thanks. i figured it would be a big hassle and substantially more expensive but like i said a fair number of people were recommending it. I think ill stick to the 5.3 and/or 6.0 game plan.

Dunno if you are interested/care/ or have the budget for it... but the guys on a forum I belong to doing the dmax/allison swap on the 08 H2's are selling the complete engines/transmissions/harnesses/computers...

so you can get the new 393hp 6.2l

    6.2 liter H2 motor

wow, and thats brand new i imagine? hell id like to have the 6.2 in my truck AND a d-max/alli hummer, talk about badass.

for brand new complete stuff $6k isnt bad at all, I have read on pacificcp that the newer engines are a much harder swap compared to the 99-03's i believe, but still something i would look into thanks for the link man.

so to another swap question, if I found a cheap enough complete low miles 5.3...should I go for that? a guy on FSC has one in his 98 SFA z71 now and he said its the bed mod he's done and is pulling down pretty good freeway mileage even on 38s. if i got the 5.3 a little cheaper i would sink the difference from a 6.0 into some more performance goodies i think.
