What all would be involved if I were to install an ls1 in my 2004 4.8L 5 speed truck?
Do i need to change oil pans or would it just mount right in? Any sites or related posts would be a huge help.
I tried searching but could not find what I was looking for. Is it just a straight forward bolt in and then a program update?
It's true I think RST does stand for Real Slow Truck.

It is a straight forward bolt in. I just swaped in a LS1 in place of my 4.8l. Just swap the pan, accesories, water pump, intake, coil packs, and exhaust manafolds. You will need to also swap the flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch, and pressure plate being that you are standard. So far it is running fine on the 4.8L tune but I will get it retuned. Mine is a 2002 4.8 to a 2002 LS1. You will also need to swap the windage tray and pickup tube over inside the oil pan.

I thought of one more thing the front pulley will need to be switched and the bolt replaced.

just move all exterior accessories, manifolds, etc.. from the 4.8 to the 5.7...
    externally they are the same....
swap everything pullies and flywheels, water pumps, pan (windage tray and stick), etc...
the only issue is that the injectors of the ls1 are a higher flow rate than the 4.8/5.3 injectors.
programming would be best to tie it all together.
