I've been reading alot on both heads. Alot of contradiction. Which would be better for a LQ4? I know with the l92 heads I will also need a new intake and then the accessory bracket from the f-body? Just looking for the pros and cons of each setup. Currently running lq4 with #42 injectors, e-fans, 3.73 gears, 150 wet shot and Nelson 93 tune. Also for both heads I would need a custom cam correct? Thanx in advance

im running a 228/236 112+2 in my 6.2 stock port milled heads full bolt on. i got beat by a 09 CCSB 5.3/6spd on 20s stock converter with a Roush TVS1900, Pat G Spec'd cam, OBX LTs/OR-y, CAI, Truckshop tune (522rwhp)

40-105 he beat me by a fender
65 to 105 i got the jump by a fender but when i hit 3rd he came back on me and at 105ish he had a half a fender back on me.

my mods are:
6.2 stock port heads/milled
228/236 112+2 cam
UD crank pulley
CAI
pacesetter LTs/ OR-y 3" exhaust
4:10s
PI3600/Billet servos
Truckshop tune

im thinking of running a bigger cam/more lift/less LSA though....im really not liking the 112 anymore...i DD a 113+4 cam in my 5.3 and i like the idle...its a lot sneakier than my 112

Basically a great thread with a lot of well know builders and head guys. Just goes to show that for making alot of power the LS3/L92 heads fall behind to the good ole cathedral port heads. Shows they have great flow numbers but can't perform the same.

Enjoy!!

Keep in mind Greg Good is very good at what he does and is one of the best porters and head guys around.

Just got rid of my favorite short wide bed chevy (2000) for a 09 GMC Sierra 2WD 5.3L. After looking up the vin I found out the engine is a LY5.

My question is where to start on getting more power out of this engine. Currently this truck only has a K&N drop in filter and a Flowmaster cat-back system. Where should I go from here as far as bolt ons or any tuning tips to get more power out of this engine?

My plans are:
Hooker long tube headers & Y pipe with my current flowmaster 40's series muffler, not a big flowmaster fan but if what im going to use now.

Maybe a Hypertech programmer and a MAC Cold Air Intake..

What would you suggest?

Even little things like removing mass air screen or any tips you know of would help...

Thanks alot,

I just picked up an '05 SSR w/ the LS2 engine. What do you guys recommend as beginning steps to upping the HP?

I'd like to dyno it to get a baseline, but the engine is rated at 390HP with the automatic trans. I'm guessing its about 300RWHP.

I think my first performance mod will be a chip/controller, like HP Tuning.

Any "first mod" suggestions?
