I have a general electrical question. Will an 01 Silverado still run if you disconnect the battery after it's started? I was thinking it wouldn't since the whole electrical circuit wouldn't be complete but I wasn't totally sure.

2003 Arrival Blue Silverado SS.....I just can't leave $hit alone.
yeah that will cut the juice to the computer and it controls the spark plugs/fuel so it will die
The charging system should make pleanty of power without the battery so it should run just fine. Just don't let the + terminal touch any ground while it is running.

wouldn't that full field the alternator or whatever, blow up some light bulbs, and break some shit?

The alternator is regulated so it will maintain proper voltage. The only way I know of to full field the alternator is to bypass the regulator.

The battery is the source of power to start the vehicle. Once the engine is running the alternator is the source and also charges the battery if it is lower than the power being created by the alternator. As long as the alternator is stable and provides enough juice you can remove the battery. Just don't expect it to start again without the battery...![]()
Jethro # 3 and the rest of the guys are right. It should theoredacally speaking stay running.
Had a 91 SB, Open diff, 3.08 gears, stock LS1/T56. 14.8@95.9...sold.
Now, 90 C1500 350tbi/NV3500....just bought a 5.3...need T56, Swap parts.....
good point...didnt think of the alternator because mine isnt hooked up right now
It won't run. My brother's truck kept dying on him at random and it ended up being a partially coroded positive battery terminal connector. Replaced that at the stealership and no more problems.

It'll run, but if you load the electrical system such as lights and AC, it may die at random because the battery is the cushion. I have also burned up some newer alternators because of turing on electical loads without the battery connected. This was a 94 nissan sentra and a 06 F150. The voltage will spike and can potentially damage the electrical system.
