    tach needle is stuck

so i get in my truck this morning and i notice my tach needle on my gauge was sitting at 1500 rpm while my truck was just idling so i step on the gas, it goes up but does not come down, so now the needle is stuck at about 5500 rpm, any suggestions

i dont know if its the cold weather or not, but the tach has a mind of its own, does not work at all but sticks at different rpms randomly with the ignition on or off, my speedometer does not work sometimes and my oil pressure gauge goes straight to 80 and doesnt move only while the ignition is on tho, before i invest in a new gauge cluster, does anyone think that maybe it could be something in the wiring, just figured id get some opinions

prob the stepper motor going bad...the 03-05's had a recall on the gauge cluster about this...if you are under 70k miles call the local dealer and talk to them about it

It's a special policy not a recall but it's free up to 7/70, cost of labor only 70001-80000 and SOL after that. Sit around long enough and GM might add more vehicles. Originally it was 7/70 only and only for 03-04....05's were added much later and so was the mileage changes. I've done them under warranty over 100K (barely) more than once in the old days but since GM went belly up AND my dealer was sold, no way any more.

I just had mine replaced with 75000 on it, worth a shot. Otherwise, I just so happen to have 5 stepper motors brand new that I never used if you're interested.
