I'm guessing you wanna unhook the odometer.
1) it can be illegal, check the laws
2) if its not, and you dont keep track when its unplugged, and you sell it, knowingly with more miles then it shows. That is Fraud.
They are completely electronic in the new trucks.

Or maybe he wants to unplug the Speedo to put in an aftermarket one that reads higher?

if not.. eletric speedo's, have electric odometers in them that can be set to factory specs b/c the odometer readings are saved on the comp.
So if that is what he wants, then the speedo includes both.

I'm pretty sure they are both seperate. You could probally unhook the part you don't want in the instrument cluster.

I need to check on this, but I don't think the actual milage is kept in the computer/pcm. I know the miles are in the gauge cluster, but I'm thinking actual run time may just be stored in the pcm.Originally posted by Domeskilla@Feb 23 2004, 02:38 PM

What happens when you flash a pcm and send it out, the truck still keeps it's original miles.

I was talkn about a truck with an electronic odo.. where at the gauge, it only shows the numbers, in eletronic form.. not lik eyour truck. Or were you talkn about the same thing? Maybe its saved rightt ehre, but i've seen acouple guys in Dallas change over to autometer gauges in older trucks with swaps and they got their new gauge to read the same mileage the old one did.Originally posted by farmtruc+Feb 24 2004, 12:46 PM--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(farmtruc @ Feb 24 2004, 12:46 PM)</div><!--QuoteBegin-DomeskillaI need to check on this, but I don't think the actual milage is kept in the computer/pcm. Ah I forgot you have the digital odometer. It reads the milage off the PCM like farmtruc said. I was thinking the electronic analog odometer.Originally posted by farmtruc+Feb 24 2004, 11:46 AM--><div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(farmtruc @ Feb 24 2004, 11:46 AM)</div><!--QuoteBegin-DomeskillaI need to check on this, but I don't think the actual milage is kept in the computer/pcm. hate to tell you this but even if you unhook the odometer adn run around for 2, 3, 4 or how ever long. when you plug the connector back into the odometer it will read exactly how many miles you have on it.
we tried this on my buddies and lets just say he did it for nothing.

Ah.. see.. so the computer still reads/saves it and then when you plug it back it sends it? Explains a lot. So he can still change out the gauges if that is what he wants, b/c he'll always have the right odometer settings.Originally posted by 01Thunder@Feb 24 2004, 06:58 PM
