Tahoe Roof Rack on Silverado?

Has anyone tried putting a tahoe roof rack (shortened of course) on a silverado? I was tinking I would like a rack but hate the ones that clamp onto the door openings because all the ones I have had made wind noise. Also the factory racks mount lower then the aftermarket ones. Also, can some with a tahoe tell me how they mount to the roof? ie sheetmetal screws or threaded inserts or whatever? any other ideas?

Use the bed of the truck. Why do you want the rack on the roof for?

To carry and lock up skis. If you leave them in the bed you won't have them for long, and 5 pairs of skis rolling around in the bed is a pita.

How long are they? Because I can put a few 2x4's in the bed (either hanging over the tail gate, or I let the tailgate down and bungie them.) And not have any problems. I'm just telling you this, because poking holes in the roof is not a good idea IMO. Plus i don't think it will look good either. But you can do it. Edit: Forgot, around here people don't steal things Like that. If they will fit in the bed, with the gate closed, Get a tonneau cover I think.

they sell racks for top of trucks. ive seen them on Trucks with stacy david before. you could do a tahoe rack but would need to reinforce the roof. the racks i seen i think go thru the doors....but that is a good idea.

There are companies that make rails that go on the bed that you can mount bike racks or ski racks or whatever to. That would be a much better way to go. I'll see if I can find some links. I think some even integrate them into a retractable bed cover too.

WTF?

It's bad enough I get complaints of the roof "coke canning" when the doors get shut...can't imagine putting a rack up there.

I have the rack off my Blazer if you wanna buy it...

LOL
