Mounting on the bed behind the cab is the best way to obtain a equal range infront of you and behind you. If you mount 2 antennas, you can only plug one in because there is a certain distance that they have to be apart or you wont get proper functionality. Think its like 80 inches. If you mount on rear of truck, your range will be more infront of you than behind you.

well i'm plannin on mountin it on my tool box in the center of it. it's the kinda box that sits inside the bed. i wanna build a custom mount outta stainless or aluminum that brings it a couple inches back and up from the tool box

Just make sure you have a good ground from the tool box to the frame or to the bed, a bad ground will fry your CB real quick.

I don't have any pictures of it but I had one that sat in the bed and I made a simple bracket with diamond plate to match the toolbox. It basically just bolted to the toolbox and the antenna mount just sat on the bracket, but you do have to have your box bolted down or else you won't have a ground. My bracket faced toward the tailgate cause it'll break your third brake light if it's on the other side (I guess that's common sense though)
